I was born and raised in the South West of Western Australia, blessed with farming roots and ocean life.

All of my family are creative in some way or form, so I have always been surrounded by “projects” and a continual display of “show and tell” between family members.

It wasn’t until my children were old enough that I decided to take the opportunity to learn the foundations of painting with acrylics at our local TAFE. With the guidance of an inspiring teacher/mentor and surrounded by other enthusiastic budding artists and followed with many other classes and painting workshops, telling stories through art became a part of my life.

In 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and in 2012 I separated from my husband. All of this was a massive rollercoaster of fear and emotions. Having attended Art Therapy classes during my cancer treatment, I once again reached deep within and painted from my soul, expressing all of how I felt onto the canvas. I didn’t realise at first of what I was doing, but then it became evident that I was painting “My Story”. With strong encouragement from friends and family, I chose to be courageous, step out of my comfort zone and my first solo art exhibition “Looking Forward, A Personal Journey with Breast Cancer” was shown in October 2014.

I am now aware that my “Creative Eye” never turns off. Where ever I look, where ever I am I continually see shapes, colours, contrasts, compositions, patterns and stories to tell through the visual world, so with this, I enjoy photography as much as painting.

Off the back of another bout of breast cancer and treatment in 2015, I worked tirelessly towards a second Art Exhibition in collaboration with the creative photographic team known as Ammon Creative. “Life is a Tapestry of Moments” was exhibited in May 2019. This was a unique and beautiful exhibition consisting of photographic interpretations of my paintings.

Travel is now a large part of my life, I’m always preparing for another trip somewhere, filled with excitement about what new views my creative eye will be exposed to and inspired by. When not being creative I work as a Registered Nurse, currently in the operating room environment.

When it comes to my process of creation, the desire to express a feeling or experience begins deep within my Soul, in that quiet part of me that listens, watches and feels the stories of life that unfold around me,  it  then surfaces and is expressed outwards through my heart to be shared.

The pictures sit in my mind’s eye for quite some time, with the contemplation of composition, colours, size and shapes, as I believe every part of a painting speaks its own language in portraying a message to the observer. I will often pencil draw the  idea and use colour pencil to experiment with scale and colours. When painting mandalas, I initially measured and free draw the image. With all of it, I find joy in creating my art, especially the unfolding process of painting. I never really know what the finished piece is going to look like until I come to a place where I feel the painting is balanced with the use of shapes and colour

I have stepped into sharing my painting knowledge and now present workshops on painting mandalas. It is a wonderful experience observing the process others go through to create their own unique piece of artistic expression.

Over time I have sourced and have had created an array of merchandised products or as I like to say “useable art”.  There is an array of stock available for purchase, this includes original paintings, gift cards, jewellery boxes, tote bags and cushion covers. You can visit my Etsy shop or where to find me to purchase these products. Please contact me if you are interested in hosting or attending a painting workshop.
